Each year, tons of people make a very difficult decision: do I stay home with my child(ren) or work. Lately I have been discussing this a lot with the people close to me. I know mothers who work, and I know moms who stay home. I know people who are doing one thing, but would rather be able to do another, and everyone always has on opinion on this topic.
After talking a lot about this, it seems to me that it all really comes down (often, but not always) to what type of lifestyle you want to lead and what is financially feasible.
Would I love to stay home with my 2 year old and soon to be baby? Absolutely. But would I also like to have memberships to every aquarium, zoo and children's museum around and be able to take them to Disney when I want? Also absolutely.
I worry that leaving my child in daycare - while I love his current daycare - means that I can't ever get that time back. Someone wise pointed out to me just this week that work will always be there, but this time with my kids will not. However, this wise person (a SAHM), is also slowly returning to the work force.
I makes me wonder if anyone is ever happy with the decision they have made?
This won't be a long blog, because we all have our own (very dividing) opinions, but I would love to hear what you all think.
Do you stay home? Why? How do you do it?
Do you work? Also why? Do you feel like you are missing out on anything?
My reasons for working, and alternatively why I would consider staying home, are below. Let me know what you think.
Working pros / SAHM cons:
Working cons / SAHM pros:
I am certain that there are many that I have missed, but for how this is what I have. As I said before, I would love to hear what works, and doesn't for you, and how you made the decision to work or stay home.
Here is where I will rant about my daily mommy life, give some insight into a brain tumor survivor's musings, and hopefully offer up some fun as well.
